Albrecht La’Brooy (live)

A couple of classically trained musicians from the Perth & Melbourne respectively, making big waves in our small town through both their improv based, hardware centric live sets, and impeccable record label, Analogue Attic. Amped to have the two back for a second year running. Watch this space both now and well into the future.

Ben Fester

Gracing the IV stage for the first time, Ben ‘the Ambassador of Bounce’ Fester is a notorious Sydney sider and undoubtedly one of the best in pushing that contagious feel-good house vibe and infectious party jams north of the Victorian border, and no 2am curfew is gonna poop his party. This record store clerk with a bag full of unpredictability is going to give us a taste of NSW underground.

listen

Bwise

Two of the ears behind Sound of Thought, Out of Focus and Inner Varnika, this boy’s musical repertoire is constantly changing and expanding much like his facial hair. Hndsm.

Commonly grounded and Out of Focus yet never one for politics, a hndsm fella who needs no introduction. Rainbow Serpent resident and Inner Varnika’s own, when he plays, people shake their hips and dance, all the damn time.

listen

Len Leise

Making his Inner Varnika debut is smooth operator Len Leise, purveyor of slung back dubbed out sonic arrangements from the retrosuperfuture. Obscure visions sprinkled with outer-space suburbia and weirded out rhythms, unite together under fine percussive prose - this is homegrown talent not to be slept on.

listen

Moopie

Possessing an unrivalled command of all things electronic and one of the founders of A Colourful Storm, Moopie has owned his slots at Inner Varnika for the last two years. A talented crate digger who is dedicated to the cause and another young’n lost to Berlin nights. Having played and mixed a CD for Jealous God, Moopie makes his return to our shores for IV 17. Undeniably one of Melbourne’s most valuable exports with a following to match.

Noise In My Head

An institution of obscure beauties and a gifted selector with unrivalled taste, NIMH has sounded out his presence and unfurled a plethora of musical oddities within and outside of Australia over the last 10+ years via his legendary RRR turned NTS radio show, and recently birthed sibling label, Efficient Space. Seminal reissue or modern classic, whatever it is he’s having, we’ll have one too! We are straight chuffed that NIMH can join us outdoors again this year.

listen

Phil Stroud

Perth resident, Phil Stroud, with live band in tow, is a connoisseur of polyrhythmic percussive jazzy workouts releasing on Perth based label Good Company Records. Heavy on soul and even heavier on class and ability, Phil is nothing short of a master of hypnotic percussions and a hell of a live band when in unison with his quartet. We are straight up psyched to have the explosive Phil Stroud band live this year.

listen

Pjenné

Melbournite darling and legend of allsorts, this miss is one damn fine espouser of records devine and shimmery. Seeing Pjenné, aka Penny O’Brien make her first foray onto the other side of the decks may, né, will, warm your Inner Varnika with her silky selections.

listen

Toni Yotzi

Hailing from the far side of the Nullarbor, this WA lady is way more than 3 hours ahead of the rest. One of Melbourne’s (ok, adopted) most tasteful deejays in selecting and stringing a set of oft-forgotten odd cuts and obscure electronic groove. Toni occupies her own space in sounding and holding down a floor through her uniquely jacking selection and we do cordially invite you and her to try that out together, like maybe this Easter?

listen

Unfettered

True to the name, Unfettered does not care much for anything save for narrative, flow and the sound of thought emanating from considered selections. Although he is also known as DJ Regret on other airwaves, don’t let the scowl fool you. This is a man on point at all times and his sets are only regrets if you miss them.

Wael-X

An enigmatic underground dweller whose healthy disdain for industry norms and prescribed notions of dance is heard through his approach to body music and love of tobacco.
